Save Our Sportsmen's News
The Worcester County League has been blessed by 32 years of continuous communication thanks to the foresight and efforts of Sportsmen's News Editor Jim Berube. In recent years, Jim has been joined by Ken Stidsen, who assists with the electronic compilation and layout of the News, and Rosemary Charron, who has handled the postal mailing list for individuals and member Clubs.
Now, after combined decades of service to the sportsmen and women of Worcester County, this team will be stepping down and enjoying a well-deserved "retirement" after the June edition goes to print. We all owe Jim, Ken and Rose a tremendous debt of gratitude for keeping us informed, educated and entertained through their monthly publication for the past 32 years. Great job!!!
The League has expanded its Publications Committee to address the very obvious question of, "What's next?". The simple answer is to find a volunteer or volunteers who will take over for Jim and Ken and handle the compilation and layout of the many articles, ads, Club news and League updates that together comprise the Sportsmen's News.
The League will provide the next Editors with the necessary software and guidance to make the transition. The League will also seek to best distribute the News by polling the membership to determine who prefers the traditional printed version, who would like an electronic version emailed to them and who would like to access the News via the League's website or Facebook pages. Arrangements would then be made to outsource the tasks of printing, mailing and maintaining a mailing list for the hardcopy version, establishing a cost effective subscription option, creating an email list for Clubs to distribute the News electronically among their members and provide an email option for others such as Legislators, MassWildlife officials and conservation organizations with whom we need to communicate.
Time is running out and communication is essential, particularly when outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and target shooting are under such close scrutiny. We need to remain united, informed and able to rally our members and conservation allies to protect the wildlife, habitat and recreational resources we hold so dear. So please, reach out to League President Joe Afonso or League Board of Directors Chairman Dave Morin to discuss the details and possibilities. And thank you for your consideration.
